Chess Team going to Illinois State Tournament

Marian Central Chess Team headed to IHSA State Championship AGAIN!

The Marian Central High School Chess Team qualified to compete at the Illinois High School Association State Championships and is headed to Peoria Civic Center in Peoria, IL.

Eight team members will compete as a team for the Championship. This year is Coach Widzisz's and Coach Miller's Chess Team's second year competing and their second year headed for State.

Alex Gilmore, Timmy Miller and Josh Arejola earned medals at the Northern Illinois Chess Leagues Conference Tournament leading the team to a victory that qualified their team to compete at State.

Chess team members headed to state are: Seniors Joshua Arejola, Patrick Kelly, A.J. Leidig, Nicholas Shepard and Nicholas Tappen, followed by Junior Alex Gilmore along with Sophomores Timmy Miller, Matthew Kaufmann, Peter Walsdorf and Jade Mikalauskis, and Freshmen Jack Newton and Justas Venys.

As part of the Marian Central Tradition the high school band will be giving their Chess Team a traditional send off Thursday February 7th, 2019 at 2:25 p.m. The Chess Team will be paraded through the hallways of Marian Central Catholic High School with the high school's faculty and staff cheering as they are marched through the first floor of the school.
