Marian Softball in the IHSA 3A Sweet Sixteen
Even without having their own campus softball field to practice on, and never hosting a Home Game with home field advantage, this team stuck together and fought a battle that has never been done in Marian Central Softball History.
After winning their first regional title since 2006, the Lady Hurricanes took the field yesterday against third-seeded Grayslake Central (24-7-1) in the Sectionals second semifinal and won 5 to 3. This is the Canes 10th win in the past 12 games overall.
Now Marian (19-15-1) will face their Nemesis; seeded No. 4 - Marengo (23-15) on Friday May 31 at Wauconda High School at 4:30 PM located at 555 N. Main Street in Wauconda - just next to the Wauconda Library.
Marengo is looking to win their 3rd IHSA Sectional Title in 5 years. Each year Marengo has been the team to knock Marian out of the running for the title.
Since 2007 Marengo's Head Coach Dwain Nance has a 11 year average of .783 with 311 wins, 86 losses and 1 tie. He took the Indians to an Illinois State victory in 2011 and 2017.
The IHSA Website posts all school records that have been submitted to them from the High School Athletic Directors, since the websites inception in 1996. Researching the Marian Central Softball Team there has not been any statistic submitted since 2007 when Dan Jacobson was the Head Coach.
The winner of Fridays game will play the winner of the Genoa (G-Kingston) Sectional also being played on Friday. Sterling High School vs. Sycamore High School.
